Good afternoon, Paso Schools families—and happy first day of fall!

Even if the Paso Robles weather hasn’t quite gotten the memo yet, fall is officially here. This time of year tends to bring full calendars, busy evenings, and plenty happening both at school and around town, so we hope these updates make it a little easier to keep the important things in one place.

This week’s update includes information about tonight’s Board meeting, tomorrow’s school safety Parent Night, Friday morning's Coffee with the Superintendent, Friday night's Homecoming game at War Memorial Stadium, youth sports opportunities, student scholarships, District news, and a few helpful reminders for the weeks ahead.

The PRJUSD Board of Trustees will meet today, Tuesday, September 22, in the District Board Room at 800 Niblick Road. Closed session begins at 6:00 p.m., with open session expected to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Among the topics on this week’s agenda are the Facility Master Plan, an Aquatics Complex update, future Measure M project planning, a proposal for PRHS tennis courts and parking, and an update to the grades 9–12 science pathway.

Community members are welcome to attend in person or watch the meeting live online.

PRJUSD’s Parent University is back with a new series of free sessions designed to give families practical information, tools and resources to support their children at school and at home.

This year’s topics include ALICE safety training, Hidden in Plain Sight, literacy by third grade, digital citizenship and online safety, and a three-part Mindful Families series. All parents are invited. 

The series begins tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. with ALICE Training in the District Office Board Room.

The new Paso Robles Youth Sports Clinics are underway, and registration is now open for basketball!

Sponsored by a JUSTIN Community Grant in partnership with Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, the clinics give local students in grades 4–8 more opportunities to learn, play, and build their skills with experienced local coaches right here at PRHS.

🏀 Basketball Clinics

PRHS Gil Asa Gymnasium

The program is designed to make high-quality youth sports instruction more accessible while helping young athletes build skills, confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

Clinics are open to all students in grades 4–8, and scholarships are available for eligible students.

🏐 Beach volleyball clinics are already underway, and 🤽 water polo clinics are coming in Spring 2027.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and VFW Auxiliary are offering two scholarship opportunities for students in grades 6–12, with this year’s theme: “What a Veteran Taught Me About America”

Students in grades 6–8 can enter the Patriot’s Pen written essay contest by submitting a 300–400 word essay. The national prize is $5,000.

Students in grades 9–12 can enter the Voice of Democracy audio essay competition by recording an original 3–5 minute essay. The national first-place scholarship is $35,000.

Thank you to our local VFW for helping connect Paso Schools students with opportunities to share their voices—and potentially earn scholarship dollars along the way! 

Join us on Friday, October 2, from 6:00–6:30 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium as we celebrate the completion of a new memorial honoring the history behind the stadium’s name.

War Memorial Stadium was originally dedicated in memory of 12 Paso Robles High School graduates who lost their lives during World War II. The new monument wall and commemorative plaque ensure their names—and the meaning behind this important community landmark—will continue to be remembered by generations of Bearcats.

The ceremony will take place at War Memorial Stadium, just before that evening’s Bearcat football game and Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony. We hope you’ll join us as we honor the history of this special community landmark and the Bearcats whose memory it preserves.

Families are invited to Hidden in Plain Sight: Would You Recognize the Signs of Alcohol and Drug Use in Your Home? on Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room.

This adults-only workshop will be led by guest presenters from Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley and will give families a guided look at how alcohol and drugs may be concealed in a teen’s bedroom. Using real-life examples and a sample bedroom setup, presenters will highlight common hiding places, warning signs to watch for, and practical ways to begin conversations with your child.

You do not need to have a student enrolled in Paso Robles Joint Unified School District to attend—all community members are welcome. Spanish interpretation will be available at the event.

At its September 8 meeting, the Board of Trustees received updates on student safety, JROTC, student engagement and District finances; welcomed new School Resource Officer Cole Anderson; and recognized Hispanic Heritage Month and Constitution Week. The Board also reviewed the District’s 2025–26 year-end financial report, which showed the year closed without deficit spending.
