The Board reviewed plans for a kitchen remodel at Marie Bauer Early Education Center, where over 1,000 meals are served monthly despite the facility lacking a working kitchen.
This project supports the district’s continued investment in early childhood facilities, ensuring that our youngest learners have access to modern, functional spaces that meet current program needs. The proposed remodel would be funded by Fund 13 (cafeteria funds). |
The Board approved a project to repaint Paso Robles Highschool, an important part of ongoing maintenance and facility stewardship. Regular upkeep like this helps preserve district assets, maintain safe and welcoming campuses, and protect long-term investments. This project is funded by Fund #14 (Deferred Maintenance). |
The Board approved the purchase of student devices for the 2026–27 school year, with a notable shift in approach for younger learners.
For grades K-2, the district will transition from iPads to Chromebooks and move away from a full 1:1 model. This change is designed to reduce overall screen time and better align instructional practices with early learning research.
Research in early childhood education consistently shows that hands-on, tactile learning—such as writing, drawing, and manipulating physical materials—supports stronger development of foundational skills like literacy, fine motor coordination, and attention. Digital tools will continue to be used strategically in grades K-2, but with a focus on balance to ensure students are building these critical early skills.
This purchase is funded by a combination of LCAP supplemental funds and the General Fund IT budget. |

The Board of Trustees received a comprehensive update on school finance and long-term budget planning, including key cost drivers such as staffing, special education, and rising retirement obligations. Staff emphasized that budget projections are dynamic and influenced by factors like enrollment and state funding.
Another focus of the presentation was Measure M progress and planning for the remaining unallocated funds. The Board reviewed projects that have yet to be completed and will wait for the results of the Facilities Master Plan before making decisions on how to allocate the remaining $7.3 million in Measure M funds.
The session also highlighted a significant milestone: the district has eliminated its structural deficit and is on track for a balanced budget—an achievement made possible through multiple years of careful reductions, staffing adjustments, and fiscal discipline. |
