County Wide Chess Tournament 4/29

Last Saturday the PRHS Chess Club hosted the first County Wide Chess Tournament in three years since pre-Covid in the Gil Asa Gym.  With the Support of SLOchess.com owner Michael McCreary and his Chess Referees, the tournament was open to Middle Schools and High Schools with 2 categories of competition: Seasoned Players, and Rookies.  40 student players participated from schools all over the County.  In the Rookies category Alex Adams from SLOHS took first place, Nico Robinson from Laguna MS took second Place, Aiden Holdner from Arroyo Grande HS took 3rd place, and Ryan Rastad form Laguna MS took 4th.  In the Seasoned section, Cohen Wallace from Templeton HS took first place, Aditya Panikkah from AGHS took second place, James Hazelwood from AMS took 3rd, and Gavin Galanski (school not listed) took 4th place.  Local Bearcats Mark Boatman came in 9th place, Steven Blond 15th place, and Mac McCauley 20th place in the Seasoned section.
