Dominic Marquez (11th) and Christian Davidson (12th) both qualified for the 3-day state meet after competing in both the Division 1 CIF Central Section meet and the CIF Central Section Masters meet. It is not only a very difficult tournament to qualify for but each weight class in the tournament holds 40 athletes from all over the state.
Dominic Marquez at 113 pounds ended the post season with a top 24th finish in the state. Marquez strung along two pins within the first two rounds. The first round he faced the 31st ranked wrestler in the state from Sutter High School. Then he went up against the 4oth ranked wrestler in his weight class from Skyline. Marquez later lost to the 4th seed in his weight class.
Christian Davidson at 195 pounds ended the post season with a top 24th finish in the state as well. Davidson lost his first round to a wrestler from Poway. He then wrestled and beat the 18th ranked wrester from Bakersfield and the 38th ranked wrestler from Pleasant Valley. Davidson's last match ended in a loss to the 17th ranked wrestler from RF Kennedy High School.
Both wrestlers had a great season with lots of memorable wins. Davidson placed 3rd in the Division 1 meet for the Central Section and that alone is a huge accomplishment. The last Bearcat to place third was Nathan Garcia in 2019. Davidson wants to continue to wrestle at the college level. We can look to see him in the near future on a college mat. Marquez also had some memorable victories this year and place 4th in CIF. Marquez can look forward to another state contention next year! When Dominic is on, he is the best in the state!!!
